A Video Tour of the Chad Apartment
Jane and I have old friends coming in June to visit and help out for three weeks. Craig will be helping with fix-it stuff here at the Phare. Tawanna will give Jane a hand with the talibe. We've proposed to them to stay in the Tchad apartment, so I thought I'd make a quick tour to show them. Once I had the video clip, I thought others would like to see it. So, for your viewing pleasure:
This week we hosted the 2012 visit of Wheaton College's football team. Well, not the whole team! 21 people came: 14 players; 4 coaches; and Rodney and Kathy with their daughter, Jessica (a Wheaton student, too). It was an odd year, of course, with the delay from March (spring break) because of the presidential election unrest. The trip was delayed until summer break, so fewer folks were really available to come.

In the photo above, you only see 8 Wheaton men, because 5 went to help out to Beersheba with Aaron and Sara and 5 others went with Amet and Alexia to volunteer with the rehabilitation of a community center out in the slums. These eight were my construction crew. They are posing in the picture with the masons in front of a wall they build out front. below you'll find a series of video clips showing that side of things. Each day a couple guys also went to help Jane with the talibe. They got to play Jenga and memory with the boys. And they also saw one of the daara where some of the boys live. That is an eye-opening experience.
For the last three days of the week, late morning, two others went with Jessica to help with the English Resource Center, near the University. That was a chance to interact verbally with African peers. A great week!
Aaron says he remembers being in the ditch in the early 80s. So the pipe is only 30 years old. Still!
