Gettin the tent out
Jumpin! That's how it's been around here last week and, evidently, this week as well.
Last week the Pular Convention was held here. People from Mali, North Africa, and Senegal were here getting some training.
Observing as I do from my window, I noticed lots of goings on. Here's a brief list:
Ladies in long flowing outfits. Men in long flowing outfits. A bazillion kids running around (unparented...grrr). Meetings held inside when the rain poured. Meetings held under the trees when it shined. Delightful smells coming from the cooking area. Rumbled spirits from the D.I.M (the fella that keeps it looking spiffy) when he discovered that the cooking ladies had been throwing trash outside instead of in the big, blue trash cans. Distinctly different people from other tribes I've seen. I noticed a lady who had her lips dyed black.
I'm not sure what the conference was about. I did hear that it was unusual in that this time around, as opposed to last year, people where able to share more about their personal ministries, instead of just listening to a speaker talk on a chosen topic.
Sunday morning, most of them piled into various public transportation vehicles and headed back to their homes.
Monday came and went with nothing but the sound of the waves and the birds.
Then Tuesday hit.
A white truck pulled up with five guys in it. In the bed of the truck where four loud speakers. Secretly I thought "OH NO!! This groups going to be a loud one".
I've been told by Herve not to worry.
Later on in the evening a big truck pulled up with metal bars and tent equipment. In a flash, they had transformed the basketball court into a nice, covered seating area.
Again, judging from what I see through my windows (I really need to get out more) I see youth and a few older people. I'll find out more details later.
This evening they sang some great songs and so far the loud speakers are not being used.
It doesn't really matter for us (our family) because we have five fans blowing on us, so people could be screaming in our ears and we wouldn't here a peep.
October is here and it is H.O.T.
Other news, Evette, one of the ladies who has worked here for years, is expecting her third child. She's been pretty sick for the past couple of weeks. Pray for her and for the baby. Thanks.
