Happy New Year

Well, there is a general strike going on again today. All the buses, trucks and taxis are parked in protest over rising fuel prices. Diesel is now at 825 F per liter. That's about $6.50 per gallon. They aren't happy with that!

So, Mbaye couldn't get to work yesterday or today. Poor Patrice normally rides his bike. But today he had to walk all the way from his home in Grand Yoff since his bike's gears are worn out and the chain is slipping. Ndiaga, the ladies and I all could walk the mile from Ouakam without too much effort.

It's strangely quiet out on the main street! And in here it's even quieter without Mbaye the jokester! We do have a few guests this week, including Benita from Canada, returning to Vancouver after 4 months volunteering in Nigeria. But this is a normally quiet week of the year after the holidays and this year is not an exception.

So I thought I'd just post a few photos to remind you of visits here. (Shamelessly stolen from the team of Christ Community - Stow) But I wasn't sure what to show.

A lovely view of Gorée Island? Or a beautiful flower?

Or perhaps a reminder of the city? Or the countryside?

A delicious cebujen? Or some attaya?

In any case, let me just send to all of you from all of us at the Phare and with UWM-Senegal our blessings on the coming year of 2012. May the Lord bless you all with the riches of His grace and goodness, drawing you to Himself through the long-awaited King, our Savior Jesus.
