Hudson Team Extravaganza!

The Phare was built a long time ago, back in the age of the French Colonizers. It was in fact, a governor's home or some other commanding official. It still has the markings of that period. The main building’s architecture is beautiful with high ceilings and arched doorways. The main drive way is made out of stone rather than plain, boring cement. It gives a unique look to the property and adds character that is missing in so many modern styles.
With all this beauty and character, however, we sometimes run into issues of practicality. One might argue that beauty is worth preserving even at the cost of practicality. Others would object that practicality is of great importance and therefore beauty must be sacrificed. We at the Phare say let us not quibble over either/or, lets embrace BOTH/ AND!


So when the “Hudson Team” landed last week and eagerly asked “What can we do?” we had just the job for them: widen the driveway while modeling the antique style.
Hence with great ferocity they dug into the project with vim and vigor. Now, I have to just say a big “KUDOS” for the ladies because they were doing major ‘man’ work. They were breaking up concrete, removing stones and roots for HOURS. I couldn’t believe how hard they worked. They moved the curb over almost two feet making it possible for any sized truck to get through without busting tires or our beautifully displayed flower pots. Well, done, ladies! Well, done!

This church has given a large donation to the discipleship building that is being constructed out back. A group of the guys worked alongside the crew that is there, so they were able to see firsthand what was being built as well as be a part of its development. Not a super easy thing to do when you’ve got a three way language barrier, but these gents seemed to work it out just fine.

Talk about ambition, I don’t know how this idea came up, but on top of the two main projects underway, they came up with a third; painting lines on the basketball court. Sweeping the court AND painting in a dust storm. Yowzer. They did it, though, and it looks awesome.
They also had a chance to day many other things. They went to the village, went to Goree Island and one day they came to see Antoinette and the talibe kids. They brought t-shirts and enjoyed painting and playing with the kids.

We really enjoyed having them here and hope they will come again. Thanks Hudson for all your hard work!! We enjoyed you all immensely.
