DA Students

Well, the kids from Dakar Academy came on Saturday and did a great job. There were a dozen of them, including Jessica Duttweiler. Kathy was here, too. And our friend from the SBs, Kendall Herriot, who had arranged the various outreach options for the youth group, helped supervise.

It was a clear, hot day. But these kids attacked that pile of gravel and spread it out so the whole area looks neat and well-cared for. The also trimmed the trees all around the basketball court and cleaned up the rubble and sand left behind by the mason who repaired our curb.

It is such a pretty spot now in front of the ITES library and office. All that is left to do is buy some potted plants, flowers preferably. And we need to get a table and chairs or a picnic table or something for students to have a spot to study in the open air. It’s wonderful. We’re all really pleased.

And the kids were great. They were from several different classes, though mostly they were 9^th graders. It was hot. The sun was burning. Lunch was delayed because I didn’t buy enough charcoal for the burgers. (I’ve never seen burgers cook so slowly!). After the rock-spreading, we attacked the vines and weeds on the back fence. That was dirty work with lots of bugs and thorns. Yet, in all of that, the kids were pleasant and kind to each other and didn’t complain. I don’t know what your experience is working with kids or with work teams, but according to mine, these kids were impressive.
