A New Traffic Circle Appears
This last week saw an amazing transformation out in front of our driveway. Last Sunday the bulldozers began clearing away on our side of the Ngor Road. By the time I filmed this clip on Wednesday, they crews had laid and rolled a foundation and were bringing in the gravel and tar mix. By yesterday they had rolled the blacktop on our side of the road in a semi-circle and it looks like the round point could be functional by mid-week. That may sound like a reasonable pace to you, but for us in Senegal, we are in shock. And very pleased.
As I 've said before and in the video, the by-pass / coastal road goes from our driveway all the way down town with 4 lanes and limited access. People should be able to get there in 15 minutes. At the moment, with all the traffic and road construction it is taking 40 minutes or more. Even before that, it was always a grueling trip fighting your way through traffic down there. We're very pleased for the country and for the Phare. God knew what He was doing 35 years ago when He led the Don and Jan Kuhns out here looking for a restaurant!
